Most people would agree that cycling is good for the body. And that itโs good for the planet as a means of transportation sans carbon emissions. Cycology has taken being a better environmental steward another step with their Reborn jerseys crafted from recycled performance fabrics โ as good for the planet as they are for your ride.

8 Days Reborn Jersey โ $109.95
PEZ readers may remember my review of the Cycolcogy 8 Days Collection that included their Race Jersey (a fit that has been discontinued). I can certainly wear Cycology Performance fit jerseys but prefer a more form fitting race fit. When Michael Tomchin (founder of Cycology along with his wife Sarina, who creates all the designs) first told me about the idea of the Reborn Jersey and said it would be available in XS so more form fitting on my 5โ8โณ, 130 pound, ectomorph self, I was keen to see how it would compare to my 8 Days Race Jersey (also XS). Plus Iโm a fan of the 8 Days design because Iโm old enough to remember the Beatles hit โ8 Days a Week.โ According to Michael and Sarina: โThe Beatles + paint + paper = this graffitied artwork came from listening to their songs and realizing they were singing about cycling! Oh yeah, we would ALL ride 8 days a week.โ
Which one is Reborn and which one is Race?
Construction-wise the 8 Days Reborn Jersey is the same as other Cycology jerseys:
2 panels for the front connected by a full-length zipper (YKK, so the gold standard) with a bonded hem
2 side panels
Back panel with three rear pockets and a secure zipper pocket
Silicon gripper at the hem of the back panel and side panels
Low, race-style collar
Set in sleeves that are race length with a bonded hem
With the graphics, you canโt see the three rear pockets. The zipper for the secure pocket is concealed by the reflective trim (green arrow).
Cycology doesnโt spec weight, but Iโm sure someone out there wants to know
The front and sleeves are a โsolidโ stretch material. The side panels and back panel are a micro-mesh material for ventilation/wicking. I would ordinarily wear a base layer, but the material was smooth and comfortable against my bare skin.
Inside out you can see the bonded hem on the sleeve and the difference in panel materials
Gripper at the hem to keep the jersey in place
My Cycology 8 Days Race Jersey โfits the way I like a jersey to fit: pretty much like a second skin but not binding and still allowing for freedom of movement.โ The Reborn jerseys are Cycologyโs Peformance Fit, which is their most popular jersey style. Size-wise, the XS was form fitting on me (5โ8โณ, 130 pounds, ectomorph). Race-like but not what I would call an all-out, take a deep breath to zip up the jersey, race fit race, i.e., not spray-on, second skin-like. The sleeves still hug my skinny arms (Iโm a fan of the bonded hem that grips) but the rest of the jersey is more comfortably snug. (NOTE: To provide some perspective, this jersey wouldโve been considered race fit back in my racing days in the early/mid-90s.)
Just by looking, youโd be hard pressed to say this isnโt race fit
The best thing about the Cycology Reborn 8 Days Jersey is wearing it with my Bont Vaypor Cycology 8 Days shoes!
NOTE: The socks are Ed Hood-approved white (but I know still not Ed Hood-approved height) Cycology White Reflective Logo Cycling Socks ($14.95). Speaking of Ed โฆ
As many PEZ readers probably know, Ed suffered a serious stroke some 18 months ago.ย We miss him a lot. Unfortunately, Ed probably wonโt make it back into our bunch, so we started a GoFundMe page to help Ed with his future.ย Read the full post here โ and please consider donating.

Velo Tattoo Reborn Jersey โ $109.95
From a construction and fit perspective, the Velo Tattoo Reborn Jersey is the same as the 8 Days Reborn Jersey. Itโs just a different design: โInspired by Sailor Jerry Tattoos, a whole jersey full of cycling wisdom, inspiration and motivation to remind us why we love to ride our bikes.โ And instead of being the black Velo Tattoo Jersey version, the Reborn Velo Tattoo is blue. Everyone has different fashion tastes, but I like the blue more than the black.
Donโt ask me why my Velo Tattoo jersey weighs 2 grams less than my 8 Days jersey #marginalgains for the weight weenies
Form fitting for sure, but comfortable and not constricting
Not a race jersey, but race-inspired collar and sleeves
Secure zipper pocket for stuff like keys, ID, credit card
I like the contrast between the blue Reborn Velo Tattoo Jersey and my black Bont Vaypor Velo Tattoo shoes โ IMHO a classy look with a bit of pizzaz
Recycled fun!
PEZ readers know that Iโm not one to shy away from being โnoticedโ on a bike. Iโve said this before and Iโll say it again:
What I love most about Cycology kit is that itโs fun โฆ by design. Their stuff stands out in a crowd. Definitely not for introverts. According to husband and wife founders Sarina and Michael: โOur design style ranges from mild to wild so we cater to the many different tastes of riders who want something different to the same old same old.โ
The Cycology Reborn Jerseys arenโt race-level kit (PEZ readers know Iโm a race kit kind of rider), but not everyone is comfortable in/can wear race kit. And not everyone who rides is a hard core roadie whose goal in life is to look EuroPro. What the Cycology Reborn Jerseys are (as Iโve said before about Cycology kit): โis bang-for-the-buck high value kit that works and wonโt break the bank. In other words, quality kit that most riders can afford.โ And to be even more repetitive: โWhile I love all my race-level kit, I also love my Cycology kit thatโs not.โ
And with the Reborn Jerseys, you can put some fun in your ride and do a little something to help save the planet!
