Primal 12 Gears of Christmas Long Sleeve Jersey – $90

Get ready to sleigh all day with our 12 Gears of Christmas jersey! This relaxed-fit heavyweight jersey is perfect for chilly weather and features a fun Christmas theme. It’s a must-have for any cycling enthusiast looking to add holiday cheer to their wardrobe.

Chuck Peña PEZ sez: Not every jersey has to be about being EuroPro race fit/aero. The Primal 12 Gears of Christmas jersey is one of those jerseys. It’s what Primal calls Sport Cut and says is “For beginner, casual, recreational riders who prefer a more comfortable fit.” On me (5’8″, 130 pounds, ectomorph), a size small was definitely a loose fit. There was certainly room in it for a little more of me!

The jersey itself is a fairly straightforward and what I would call “traditional” design:

  • The front consists of two panels connected by a full-length YKK zipper
  • Two side panels
  • A single rear panel
  • Raglan sleeves
  • High collar
  • Instead of any grippers, elasticized cuffs and hem
  • Three rear pockets (but no secure zipper pocket)

Primal labels the 12 Gears of Christmas jersey as “heavyweight,” but IMHO it’s more of a mid-weight jersey — especially in comparison to most of my winter riding jerseys. According to Primal, they jersey is good for “temperatures ranging anywhere from 45-75 degrees F.” For me, a jersey like this would be a bit too much for temps in the 70s, but — with an appropriate base layer for the conditions — I could wear it in cooler weather down to about 50F (I would probably want something a little more substantial for below that). But I’m also of Filipino ethnic heritage and don’t weather the cold as well as some of my more hardy riding pals of Nordic descent. So YMMV.

Heavier than lightweight, but lighter than truly heavyweight

Ultimately, the Primal 12 Gears of Christmas jersey is more than just another cool/cold weather jersey. It’s about being able to celebrate the holidays while riding your bike … whether out for a casual spin or a more spirited group ride. And IMHO could do double-duty if you’re get invited to an ugly Christmas sweater party!

Cycling jersey or ugly Christmas sweater?

Adidas SP0088 Sunglasses

  • Photochromatic Mirror lenses adapting to different light conditions
  • Weight: 23 grams
  • Adjustable nose pads
  • Anti-fog ventiation system
  • Full-rim shield with spherical lenses

Chuck Peña PEZ sez: With daylight hours getting shorter and the skies more likely to be gray than blue, the Adidas SP0088 sunglasses with photochromatic lenses that change tint in response to different light conditions make a lot of sense. At its lightest tint, the lens is almost clear. To my eyes, probably the clearest of lenses that change tint I’ve tried. At its darkest tint, my eyes were comfortable in direct, bright sunlight.

NOTE: Adidas describes these as having Photochromatic Mirror lenses, but to my eyes the mirroring is minimal. But you might see things differently.

Most importantly, the lenses are optically clear with no distortion (at least to my Lasik-corrected eyes).

Nearly clear in low/no light

Dark tint in bright sunlight … You can decide about the mirroring

As is the case with the current trend, the Adidas SP0088 is oversized — one of the largest lens real estate sunglasses I’ve tried. So definitely lots of UV and wind protection. It’s also a full-frame design. I tend to prefer either frameless or half-frame because they’re easier to change lenses — but with a single “do it all” lens that works across a wide range of light conditions, not a concern with the Adidas SP0088.

Adjustable temples and nosepiece — plus venting to help prevent fogging

Big is in the eye of the beholder

Three New Trainers Compatible with Zwift Virtual Shifting
Three new trainers have been added to the virtual shifting compatibility list. These include:

  • Elite Direto XR
  • JetBlack Volt V2
  • Decathlon’s Van Rysel D100

Zwift 2024

Thanks to firmware updates from our third-party partners, a number of smart trainers are now compatible with Zwift Cog and Click. This means you can take your setup to the next level by unlocking virtual shifting, and gain compatibility with any 8-12-speed bike as well as full compatibility with other equipment in the Zwift ecosystem.

Here’s everything you need to know about what Zwift Cog and Click can do for you, which trainers can be upgraded, and how to make that change.

What is Zwift Cog and Click?

Zwift Cog and Click are designed to simplify and elevate your Zwift experience. This upgrade replaces your existing cassette with Zwift Cog, which offers compatibility with 8-12-speed bikes and gives optimal chain alignment. This is paired with the wireless Zwift Click controller, which can be mounted anywhere on your set up. The result? Instant control over a wide range of 24 virtual gears, less bike maintenance, and the ultimate compatibility across a wide range of bikes.

Key features of Zwift Cog and Click:

  • Virtual Shifting: Enjoy silent, instant shifts at the press of a button, with no chain movement.
  • 24 Virtual Gears: Always have the right resistance at hand, whether climbing, cruising, or sprinting.
  • Wide Compatibility: Fits 8-12-speed bikes.

Why Upgrade?

Virtual shifting fundamentally changes the way you interact with your trainer. By eliminating physical gear changes, it reduces drivetrain wear, keeps your ride quiet, and ensures smooth, uninterrupted resistance transitions. This makes your Zwift sessions more immersive, allowing you to focus on your ride.

Additionally, upgrading to Zwift Cog and Click makes your trainer compatible with Zwift Ride Smart Frame, providing an always-ready, all-in-one indoor Zwift setup.
