Best Books 2025

Each year when asked to do a summary of the best books and videos reviewed over the past 12 months, it is always the case that half-forgotten gems spring back to mind. Where did the time go? 2025 turned out to be a bumper year for interesting publications, so here are the Top 5 (plus 1!) books that are worth revisiting:

Framebuilder Richard Sachs’ philosophical ruminations on the art of framebuilding:

Arranging Disorder: Inside The Mind And Craft Of Richard Sachs

As almost every book we receive is non-fiction (with a whole lot of them about training), it was a pleasure to read Herbie Sykes’ wonderful novel/kind-of-memoir about Hugo Koblet. This really stood out for its originality and sympathetic writing:

Dear Hugo

As someone with a love of fine craftsmanship and the stories behind the individuals dedicated to the lonely art of framebuilding, it is difficult to pass up a book as beautiful as this one on handcrafted bicycles:

Handcrafted Bicyclesβ€”Builders, Frame Design And Inspiration

VZR

For those interested in bike racing history, the Cycling Legends series is easy to recommend and 2025 saw the release of a volume dedicated not to single rider as in past books but rather to the hard men of Flanders:

Cycling Legends 04–”Flandriens”

Flandrien

A writer who has appeared on this list in years past is Ned Boulting and 2025 marked both the release of his latest book but also the end of his role as a commentator at the Tour de France for Britain’s ITV as that network’s coverage of the race has ended. Entertaining as always, nonetheless:

The Accidental Tour-Istβ€”(Final) Dispatches From The Road

There were other good books aimed at cyclists on training and on cooking so it was a good year overall but we do have to add one of our favourite non-cycling books. James Hoffmann’s β€œWorld Atlas of Coffee, 3rd Edition” is a beautifully-presented and highly informative book, the only one directly unrelated to cycling we have ever reviewed here on Pezcyclingnews.com. We still believe in the intersection of cycling and coffee drinking through history and social interaction and this book is a must-have…
