The 2025 Giro was certainly one to remember: three weeks of drama and, ultimately, redemption for Simon Yates on the same climb that smashed his dreams of victory in 2018. A fairy tale ending but we have a chance to stand back and admire Italy once again as the Giro organizers have posted three short videos of landscapes, with themes of the race passing through towns, along the sea and over the mountains.
Credit has to be given to RCS Sport for always putting together great videos, with mouth-watering previews before the race. Last year there was real mouth-watering during the three weeks of racing as a young chef was brought in by the Eataly sponsor to do short cooking videos on regional dishes of each region the Giro visited.
In 2025 every day of the race there was a “Giro Express” video featuring cycling legend Paolo Bettini visiting every departure and arrival town in the race. This series had him meeting every mayor or city official and getting an education not only about the sporting aspects of the place but also cultural highlights and the local economy. One learns that Lucca, for example, while a beautiful old town for tourism, also boasts a significant paper production industry; Viareggio, a lovely beach resort town, is home to one of the biggest luxury yacht building sectors in the world.
In those videos, Paolo Bettini describes his tour as visiting “il Bel paese” (the “beautiful country”), an expression first used in print by Dante, and the recent release of these three short landscape videos, breathtaking in their beauty and finely edited, are wonderful souvenirs of the 2025 Giro.
