Specialized Cotton TLR
Get wider, get faster

For the last nine months, the tech-obsessed corners of the cycling world have been buzzing with a single, persistent rumor: Specialized was finally bringing its “pro-only” cotton tubeless technology to the masses. What started as whispers in the 2025 Tour de France paddock—where unbranded, tan-walled tires were spotted on the bikes of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe—turned into a full-blown frenzy. The speculation reached a fever pitch last weekend at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. Eagle-eyed mechanics and fans spied the unmistakable texture of the new Cotton TLR in the team paddocks. Belgian champ Remco Evenepoel rode the 30mm tire and Dutch superstar Demi Vollering (photos of her bike immediately after she won the Omloop) rode on the 32mm, putting them to the ultimate cobbled test.

The wait officially ended this past Tuesday, March 3, when Specialized finally pulled back the curtain.
Wider is Faster
The Cotton TLR isn’t just a tubeless version of the classic Turbo Cotton; it’s a total reimagining of what a race tire should be. The biggest takeaway from the professional peloton over the last season is that wider is faster. Gone are the days of skinny 23mm tires pumped to rock-hard pressures. The modern pro-standard has shifted toward high-volume tires that offer better “conformity”—the ability of the tire to deform over road imperfections rather than bouncing over them. This reduces vibration and rolling resistance, effectively saving watts while keeping the rider fresh for the finale.
The Construction: Suppleness Reborn
At the heart of the tire is a 320 TPI (Threads Per Inch) Poly-Cotton-Corespun casing. By blending a strong polyester core with supple cotton fibers, Specialized has created a “live” feel that mimics a high-end tubular but with the convenience and efficiency of a modern tubeless system. This is paired with their dual Gripton T2/T5 compound: T2 in the center for maximum straight-line speed and T5 on the shoulders for confidence-inspiring grip in high-speed corners.
Specialized claim these tires offer 15% better puncture protection than the previous generation of non-tubeless Turbo Cotton tires. This is owed to incorporating their kevlar BlackBelt protection layer. But, the sidewalls are not reinforced, meaning cuts are a real possibility out on the road.

Key Specs & Pressure Ranges
Designed to be the fastest tire in the WorldTour, the Cotton TLR focuses on performance over extreme durability. These are a race day tire for sure. Local criteriums and the spiciest Wednesday Night Worlds ride is the use case. Tread life may exceed 1500km total mileage, but these are not optimal for daily driving.
- Casing: 320 TPI Poly-Cotton Corespun
- Flat Protection: hybrid kevlar BlackBelt breaker
- Compound: Dual Gripton T2 (Center) / T5 (Shoulder)
- Widths & weights: 28mm (280g), 30mm (290g), 32mm (320g)
- Compatibility: Hooked & Hookless (ISO Standard)
With the high-volume casing and tubeless design, riders can (and should) run lower pressures than traditional clinchers. While specific ranges depend on rider weight and rim internal width, the sweet spot for a 28mm tire typically sits between 55–75 psi, while the 32mm version used for the cobbles can comfortably drop into the 45–60 psi range for maximum traction and vibration damping.
Availability & Pricing
These tires are available now directly from Specialized, your local Specialized shop, or select online retailers. MSRP for the tires is $109.99, or €99,99.
Whether you’re chasing a local KOM or just want the “perfect” ride feel Remco raves about, the Cotton TLR is the new benchmark for the speed-obsessed.
4iiii Viiiiva Heart Rate Monitor
Long-term comfort and battery life
4iiii Innovations Inc., a leader in power-driven cycling performance, launches the newest Viiiiva Heart Rate Monitor. The new HRM from 4iiii combines comfort, durability, and an exceptional 540+ hour battery life.

4iiii Integration
Designed for athletes of all abilities, the Viiiiva uses a high-sensitivity chest strap to capture the heart’s electrical activity with medical-grade precision. The IPX7 waterproof rating and lightweight, comfortable design ensure it can handle the elements and the most demanding sessions, while instant data transmission via ANT+ and Bluetooth makes it compatible with any head unit or indoor training app.
The Viiiiva is also the perfect partner for the 4iiii PRECISION 3+ Powermeter, providing a complete picture of training and racing performance. While power measures external output in watts, heart rate tracks internal physiological response in beats per minute – together delivering a total understanding of effort, fitness and efficiency that neither metric can provide alone. This combination allows athletes to accurately track fitness gains, optimize recovery, perform every workout at the right intensity, and achieve precise training zone optimization that power or heart rate alone cannot deliver.

4iiii Sez
Phil White, President of 4iiii sez: “Heart rate and power are extremely valuable metrics for any athlete, irrespective of their level, aims or ambitions. The Viiiiva completes that equation for athletes using our power meters, providing both the internal and external view of performance. It offers the same level of accuracy and durability that defines our power meters, so you can trust your data in any conditions, from racing in the rain to long sessions on the indoor trainer.”
Alex Dowsett, Former WorldTour Cyclist, Coach and 4iiii Ambassador sez: “I tell every athlete I work with that power and heart rate aren’t competing metrics, they’re complementary. Power shows what you’re producing, heart rate reveals how your body is responding. The Viiiiva and PRECISION 3+ pairing gives you both with total reliability—which is essential whether you’re chasing marginal gains or building sustainable fitness. You can’t optimize what you can’t accurately measure.”

Cervélo Caledonia Family
Made for “big, stupid rides”

Cervélo just dropped the 2026 refresh of the Caledonia and Caledonia-5, and the message is clear: the “all-road” endurance category isn’t just about surviving long rides—it’s about smashing them. Born from the demand for a bike that handles the speed of a WorldTour racer with the compliance of a Paris-Roubaix specialist, the new Caledonia siblings have been refined to be lighter, cleaner, and even more versatile.
These bikes are built for what Cervélo affectionately calls “Big, Stupid Rides”—those days when you aren’t sure where the pavement ends and the adventure begins.
Caledonia-5: The Integrated Flagship

The “5” is the high-performance thoroughbred of the family. It’s the bike you’ll see under the pros when the roads get rough. For 2026, it gets some clever “trickle-down” tech from the Áspero gravel racer, including dropped seat stays for improved vertical compliance and a new in-frame storage compartment tucked into the downtube for your flat kit.
- Key Difference: Full internal cable routing, a D-shaped steerer, and premium carbon layups
- Colors: Emerald / Cream or Vanilla / Cherry

Caledonia: The Mechanic’s Darling
The “standard” Caledonia is the workhorse. It shares the same geometry as the 5 but opts for a more practical approach to integration. It features a new semi-external cable system that ducks under the stem, giving you the clean look of an aero bike while allowing home mechanics to swap stems or adjust stack height without bleeding the brakes.

- Key Difference: Slightly different carbon layup, external seatpost clamp (round 27.2mm compatibility), and no internal storage
- Colors: Nightshift or Mocha
Key Specs: At a Glance
| Feature | Caledonia-5 | Caledonia |
| Max Tire Clearance | 36mm | 36mm (34mm w/ fenders) |
| Bottom Bracket | BBRight (Press Fit) | T47a (Threaded) |
| Frame Weight | ~53g lighter than previous | Refined carbon layup |
| Storage | Integrated Downtube Compartment | Top Tube Mounts Only |
| Cockpit | Fully Integrated Carbon (ST31/HB13) | Semi-Integrated Alloy (ST36/HB23) |
Geometry: Built for Stability and Speed
Both bikes share a geometry that is “calmer” than the R5 but punchier than a dedicated gravel bike. For 2026, the fork offset and front-center have been tweaked by a single millimeter to perfectly balance the handling around higher-volume tires.
