Well, we’ve officially entered deep winter.
As a Montana based company, we know a thing or two about riding in the elements.
For those who need a break from Zwift and want to venture out for some winter riding, there a few things you should know to stay safe, warm, and comfortable this season.
We asked our guides to share their tried-and-true tips for winter riding.
Here’s what they said…
1. Layer Up
Base-layer. Mid-layer. Shell. A merino wool base layer is your best friend for staying warm while getting a little sweaty. On top of that, try a light midlayer for insulation. Then, a wind-blocking shell. We recommend something with armpit zippers for breathability. If you haven’t picked up a pair of shoe covers, they will change your life.
2. Use Studded Tires
Keep it rubber side down this winter with extra grip. Studded tires are a worthwhile investment because they’ll give you the confidence to ride on icy or snow packed roads and can even make snowy mountain bike trails accessible.
3. Install Fenders
Adding fenders to the front and rear wheels will keep you dry out on the slushy roads. Getting wet is a recipe for freezing, so keep yourself dry with this easy addition to your bike.
4. Escape the Winter Conditions
